The Stay Wet Acrylic Paint Palette:

One of the key tools in your arsenal for keeping acrylics wet is the stay wet acrylic paint palette. This clever invention extends the drying time of acrylic paint, giving you more flexibility and freedom in the creative process. The palette is made up of a damp surface that keeps the paint wet and prevents it from drying out too quickly.

How to Make Acrylic Paint Stay Wet Longer:

You will need the following materials:

Kitchen towels: Choose a thick and absorbent kitchen towel that will hold moisture well.

Water: Fill a container or a spray bottle with water. This will be used to dampen the kitchen towels.

Parchment paper: Get a sheet of parchment paper that is large enough for your container. This will be the surface for your paint.

Plastic wrap (optional): This will be used to create a wrap to cover and seal your palette.

Container or tray: Choose a tray or a shallow plastic container

(note: If the container has a matching lid, you won’t need the plastic wrap.)

How to Make The Stay Wet Acrylic Paint Palette:

1.) Dampen the kitchen towel: Dampen the kitchen towels with water. Make sure the kitchen towels are fully wet but not so much that they are falling apart!

2.) Line the container or tray: Place the wet kitchen towels at the bottom of the container or tray, spreading it evenly to cover the surface. I like to put two layers smoothed out to create a solid base.

3.) Add the parchment paper: Wet the back of the parchment paper lightly with a mist or a sprinkle of water and place it on top of the damp kitchen towels, smoothing out any wrinkles or bubbles. You now have a palette that will stay wet.

4.) Add the acrylic paints: Add the paint colours of your choice onto the parchment paper, leaving some space between each colour.

5.) Start painting: You can start painting now that your DIY stay wet palette is complete. As you work, mist the palette with water to keep it moist and prevent the paint from drying out.

6.) Close the container or tray: Simply close the lid of your plastic container. If not, wrap the palette in plastic wrap, making sure it completely covers the paint and seals the palette.

The Benefits of Keeping Acrylics Wet:

Blending and colour mixing: With more time to work on the canvas, you can effortlessly blend and mix colours, achieving smooth transitions and subtle gradients.

No Waste: You can use a stay wet palette to just store your paints for a period of time, this means there is no more dry paint on your palette that you might have to throw away.

For those artists that want a hassle free solution, and the convenience of a ready made palette:

With the magic of the stay wet acrylic paint palette, you can leave your acrylic paint wet for days, giving you more time and freedom to explore your artistic vision. So, enjoy the endless possibilities that come with more time to work. Enjoy your painting!
