Do you want to make a good picture wall for your room? Picture walls can look great on almost any blank wall. They definitely add a sense of individuality and uniqueness, and sometimes even a story. In this post, we’ll go over four things to keep in mind when designing a picture wall that you’ll absolutely adore. Continue reading!

Types of frames

A common question asked is: how do you make a good picture wall? Before you start sticking pictures on the wall, take a look around the room and choose a style that will complement your space. If you want to project a light, airy vibe, opt for simple white or black frames. Alternatively, if your home has a rustic feel, wooden frames can look great. Perhaps your living space has a lot of colour, so brightly coloured photo frames would look great to tie everything together!

Choose Pictures

Once you’ve decided on a style, start collecting and selecting the types of pictures you want for your picture wall. You can choose from family portraits, sentimental moments, city photographs, art prints, retro posters, and so on. Retro posters, for example, can be great if you have a colourful space because they have pops of colour and a unique style that can be the icing on the cake to complete your room.

Spacing

What is the best way to arrange pictures on a wall?  This is determined by the size of your wall and the number of pictures on it. If you have two large picture frames, a common way to hang them is one next to the other with enough space between them. If you use a lot of small frames, you can create a circular scattered look, or a cascading effect, which is common for walls next to stairways. You can mix and match small and larger frames and hang them in a nicely spaced jigsaw style, simply placing the frames where they appear to fit.

Decorative Elements

A picture wall can house more than just pictures. You can use decorative elements such as fairy lights to create a homey, relaxed atmosphere. Small ornaments or trinkets from your adventures can be used to create a wall that holds stories and memories. You can also personalise your picture wall by using decorative stickers with positive quotes or artistic designs. It is entirely up to you!

Finally, remembering the decor, types of photos, frames, spacing, and decorative elements can really tie everything together and create a cohesive look for your picture wall. Keeping these suggestions in mind can help you answer some questions about creating a picture wall that is fitting for you and your space.
